Switalski, Liss to Host Town Hall on Foreclosure

Forum will lend support to struggling homeowners, provide assistance

STERLING HEIGHTS – State Representatives Jon Switalski (D-Warren) and Lesia Liss (D-Warren) will hold a town hall meeting on Monday, February 23, to help residents learn more about foreclosures and what options they have when faced with the possibility of losing their home.

"One of the most stressful thoughts on the minds of many of our residents is the possibility of losing their home," Switalski said. "While it seems like there is nowhere to turn, help is available for homeowners facing the threat of foreclosure. This town hall meeting will shed more light on the programs available to residents and hopefully help more people keep their homes."

The town hall meeting will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, February 23, at St. Malachy's Church, 14115 E. 14 Mile Road in Sterling Heights.

Switalski and Liss will be joined by experts from Lighthouse Community Development, the MSU Community Extension and GreenPath Debt Solutions who will present strategies for preventing home foreclosure and how to manage the foreclosure process. In addition, the presenters will be available to answer questions and set up appointments for more in-depth counseling.

In 2008, Macomb County ranked third in the state with 15,141 properties in foreclosure – a 13.5 percent increase from 2007. Just last month, 1,246 foreclosures were reported in Macomb County; Warren ranked the highest in the county with 261 and Sterling Heights ranked third with 121.

"As the number of home foreclosures continues to rise, so do the number of families whose lives are being turned upside down," Liss said. "In order to revitalize both our community and state, we must put an end to the foreclosure crisis. I encourage all residents to attend this event and learn about the programs and services available to them."
