ROSEVILLE – In an effort to listen to the concerns of Macomb County residents, State Representative Jon Switalski (D-Warren) today held a House committee hearing on job retraining opportunities in Roseville.
"One of the best ways to revive our economy and create good-paying jobs is to put our manufacturing base to work for a new purpose," said Switalski, Vice Chair of the House Economic Development Appropriations Subcommittee. "To do this, we must help our workers and residents receive the training and education they need to work in new, high-demand fields, such as renewable energy. By taking our committee hearings around the state, we will be able to better hear the concerns of our residents and any suggestions they have to offer."
The House Economic Development Appropriations Subcommittee hearing took place at the Roseville Michigan Works Service Center. The hearing focused on workforce development, the No Worker Left Behind program and Macomb Community College's workforce training programs. Residents who attended were able to learn more about the programs and shared their suggestions on how to improve job training opportunities in Macomb County.
"We must be leaders and not allow other states and countries to take manufacturing jobs that our workers and businesses are qualified to perform," Switalski said. "By enrolling more of our hard-working residents into job training programs we can create a workforce that will attract growing industries to Michigan."
